Blast off with Jetpack!

Installing Jetpack manually was probably the most intimidating part of this entire project. Up until that point, I had been using the simple “Install” button inside WordPress. Downloading Jetpack from WordPress.org, unzipping it, and then opening it in my FTP client felt completely different. When I opened the folder and saw what looked like thousands of files (it honestly felt like 3,000), I had a moment of “What did I just get myself into?”

Uploading the entire Jetpack folder into the wp-content/plugins directory made me realize how much is happening behind the scenes in WordPress. It’s not just a pretty dashboard — it’s a structured file system that actually powers everything. Seeing all those files transfer through FTP gave me a much deeper understanding of how plugins truly function.

Once activated, I explored Jetpack’s features and saw why it’s so widely used. The Site Stats feature allows me to monitor traffic directly in my dashboard. Brute Force Protection helps protect login attempts, which is important as my website grows. I also appreciate Downtime Monitoring, because if my site ever goes offline, I would want to know immediately. For someone building a small beauty business website, security and reliability are not optional — they are necessary.

This experience taught me that website management goes beyond design and content. It requires understanding structure, backups, security, and performance. Uploading Jetpack manually was a little overwhelming at first, but it gave me confidence. I now feel more capable navigating the technical side of WordPress, not just the creative side.
